Down Syndrome Clinic

The multidisciplinary Down Syndrome Clinic in the Division of Genetics and Metabolism is the only Down Syndrome clinic in the Washington region. The clinic provides comprehensive specialty care for infants and children with Down Syndrome. Held twice a month, the clinic is attended by medical geneticists as well as experts in the developmental and nutritional needs of patients with Down Syndrome.

Clinic staff work closely with specialists throughout Children’s National Medical Center and referring pediatricians to achieve medical and educational goals and to improve overall outcome.

The Genetics and Metabolism staff have over 35 years of experience caring for approximately 2000 children and young adults with Down Syndrome. The clinic currently cares for 300 patients each year.

Emergency newborn consultation is provided at area hospitals on request. Last year, Down syndrome clinic staff participated in 75 emergency consultations.
