Children’s National provides the only dedicated pediatric sleep program in the Washington, DC, area. The clinic’s multidisciplinary team works closely with colleagues in Children’s Division of Sleep Medicine to evaluate and treat sleep disorders affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
We focus on care for patients with night terrors, sleepwalking, nightmares, and similar concerns that can influence your child’s well being and health. Sleep disorders can affect children and their families at all stages of development, and pediatric providers increasingly recognize sleep disorders as important causes of behavioral issues and other health concerns.
Children’s Sleep Medicine Specialists
Diagnosing and treating sleep disorders in children is complex and requires a comprehensive assessment of the patient by pediatric sleep medicine experts.
Members of the clinic team include certified sleep medicine specialists credentialed by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), the internationally recognized organization that establishes standards for sleep medicine physicians, behavioral specialists, and technologists.
Clinic staff uses the Sleep Disorders Laboratory, an associated program in the Division of Sleep Medicine, to diagnose sleep disorders and for therapeutic interventions, including positive air pressure (i.e., CPAP, BiPAP) and other forms of ventilatory support. Children’s Pulmonary Diagnostics Laboratory team also is available to help in the assessment of children with lung disorders complicated by sleep abnormality.
